ACPPA Community Art Center in Norristown is offering a new program this fall for
middle school students in the neighborhood. Creative After School Alternatives (CASA)
invites local youth, aged 11-14, to enroll in a free after-school initiative providing both
homework assistance and interactive learning opportunities.

Open from 3:30-5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, CASA offers a safe place for
middle-schoolers to complete homework with adult assistance, enjoy a healthy snack,
and to use the arts to have fun while learning.  We will explore school subjects in ways
that teens can enjoy and learn about themselves.  Students are invited to spend their
time after school to meet and work together to complete school work and understand
how that connects to the world around them.  Our goal is to develop adolescents who
get joy from learning and expressing themselves creatively.

Typical activities for the program include:

        Dance
        Music
        Drawing and painting
        Collage work
        Knitting, sewing and fiber arts
        Journaling, poetry and creative writing
        Reading aloud and acting
        Visitation from local professionals
        Science and history project research (online)

CASA opens to students beginning Monday, September 19, 2011 at ACPPA, 506 Haws
Avenue, Norristown.  Participants must pre-register and space is limited.
